Types of Tag Management
New Tags
Tag Title
The tag title is the label that will be seen on the front end in filters and facets.
The tag title may be translated for the international sites.
The tag title is also the meta keyword for SEO.
Follow these guidelines for the tag title:
- Use a space between words
- Use correct punctuation
- Use Title Case
- Do not include trademark or registered trademark symbols
- Do not use the same terminology in more than one tag to avoid confusion or misuse
Tag Path
The tag path is the unique identifier for each tag.
Follow these guidelines for the tag path, which are similar to URL guidelines:
- Use a hyphen between words
- Use all lowercase letters
- Do not use any special characters (amperand - &, slash - /, comma - ,)
Edit, Delete, Move, or Merge Tags
Tags can be edited, deleted, moved, or merged.
- Edit - Tag titles can be edited. (Tag paths can be edited as well, but that occurs through the move process.)
- Delete - Tags can be deleted when they are no longer needed within AEM.
- Move - Tags can be moved from one location to another. For example, rather than deleting tags, the tags can be moved from under Topics to under Personalization > Interest.
- Merge - Two or more tags can be merged into one tag. This scenario typically occurs when a page is being redirected and its tag merges into the tag used for the page being redirected to.
Follow the authoring steps below:
- Unpublish the tag(s) to be edited, deleted, moved, or merged.
- Edit and save, delete, move, or merge the tag(s).
- Republish the tag(s).
- Not applicable for deleted tags.
- Tag references will be updated automatically in language-master and Live Copy.
- Run the Bulk Publish tool on Live Copy of all sites to push the tag edit changes through to the live sites' source code and front-end filters and facets.
- There is no need to rollout when republishing; just republish in Live Copy using the Bulk Publish tool
- Tag changes may cause Card Carousels to become empty if the Card Carousel uses the impacted tag and has no other valid tags
- SEO vendor will run a monthly empty Card Carousel report to catch the empty items for AVEVA
Considerations
Front-End Impacts
It is important to note that new tags, as well as tag edits/deletions/merges/moves, will not display in facets and filters on the front end until the following have been completed:
- Tag is published/re-published
- Pages are tagged with new tag and published/republished
- Pages in all sites are bulk published to push changes through to the source code and front end on the live sites
- Coveo search platform re-indexes (occurs each hour)
Prep Work Before Changes Are Made
