CONNECT Quarterly Updates: See what’s new in July 2024

Posted: July 31, 2024

It’s estimated that by 2025, 40% of global organizations will have a digital platform in place for ecosystem operations.* Companies further along their digital transformation journey than industry peers have already seen a 7% increase in revenue growth.** With the increasing significance of digital platforms, we are continuing to expand the capabilities and features available to you within the CONNECT industrial intelligence platform.

An open and neutral information platform built by the experts in industrial intelligence, CONNECT seamlessly integrates data management, modeling, AI, analytics and visualization capabilities. With CONNECT, you can unlock the power of industrial information, combining critical on-premises systems with the flexibility of the cloud. It’s quick to deploy, secure, and scalable, offering unparalleled insights through real-time data. Discover new opportunities for value creation by enhancing and expanding your data ecosystem.

Change Broker

In the dynamic world of industrial data, change is constant, and it often leads to downstream challenges such as:

  • Fragmented data sources
  • Integration complexities
  • Out-of-sync data sets

With our latest feature, Change Broker, CONNECT data services empowers users to track changes in their sequential data storage. This functionality addresses issues related to new and evolving data by monitoring alterations in data streams, supporting changes on values such as “Update,” “Insert,” “Replace,” “Remove,” and “Remove Window.”

Event Data Store

CONNECT data services can now store not only time-series and sequential data, but also event data.

We’ve built it in a way where you have the flexibility to model a variety of different events, including single-point-in-time events and events with a clear start and end time:

  • Production, consumption, utilization, quality, batch, downtime, etc.

You can also model related referenced data that provides additional context to event data:

  • Reason codes, product names, utilization states, etc.

We’ve also built in native integration with AVEVA™ Manufacturing Execution System (MES) so we can capture manufacturing operations data across multiple sites.

  • Getting this data to the cloud not only makes data management easier across plants, but also connects this data to cloud analytics.
  • With MES event data in CONNECT, you have better visibility of manufacturing operations across the enterprise and production performance reporting right out of the box.

Hybrid Cloud Manufacturing Execution System (Hybrid MES)

As part of the Hybrid MES capability of AVEVA MES, we’re delivering a set of customized dashboards in CONNECT visualization services for visualization, analysis and production reporting, all powered by MES data in CONNECT data services.

Benefits:

  • Enterprise view of production performance KPIs – enables you to compare equipment use, OEE, and production order performance across the enterprise
  • Detailed root cause analysis experience – assists you with identifying opportunities for improving production efficiency across the enterprise
  • Production performance dashboards – provides visibility to key KPIs for plant-level equipment/assets

Community data sharing

Securely share operations data in a bidirectional way across tenants with your trusted business partners, with granular control over your data and what data each partner sees.

Shared data can be:

  • Trended in CONNECT data services
  • Shaped and leveraged in data views and REST APIs to drive machine learning (ML) and AI projects
  • Visualized in Power BI using our Power BI connector
  • Shared across custom applications, AI/ML platforms, or third-party analytics tools, like Grafana, via REST APIs
  • Queried for changes with our new data change broker

CONNECT visualization

At the end of last year, we launched CONNECT visualization services. Through this new capability, you can visualize your engineering and operational data and compile it into dashboards using customizable templates with enterprise-wide accessibility.

  • Access data across an organization's ecosystem, focusing on remote specialist teams
  • Support situational investigation, drive performance, coordination and responsiveness
  • Share actionable information with reliability, business and other teams (from anywhere through a browser)

Admin enhancements

Third-party access to CONNECT data reports is now possible, enabling you to analyze CONNECT user data in context with business reports. You can now also access up to 12 months of CONNECT user and usage data within your CONNECT account management area. This gives you broader oversight of your historical usage and enables you to optimize your investments.

In development

CONNECT visualization

Enhancements to CONNECT visualization are in progress that will offer greater possibilities for role-based experiences and make information more widely available across your organization.

Specialized role-based experiences will enable you to custom build self-contained experiences leveraging visuals from managed content libraries. Enabling custom KPI-focused visualization from plant to enterprise, with “at-a-glance” monitoring, investigation and decision support.

Industrial AI Assistant will use the power of generative AI with your industrial data. You will be able to you enter queries using common language statements through a chat interface, so you can quickly find and summarize the information you need.

CONNECT to PI Agent: Write back from CONNECT to AVEVA™ PI Server

This upcoming enhancement will really close the loop for your analytics. Data generated on-premises and enriched in AVEVA™ PI System™ can be sent to CONNECT to inform advanced analytics models. The output from those models can be sent back to AVEVA PI Server and displayed on an AVEVA™ PI Vision™ screen. It creates a complete analytics loop, all through easy-to-configure, out-of-the-box tools.

  • Transfers CONNECT data streams to tags in AVEVA PI Server
  • Works with real-time, historical and future data streams
  • Supports backfilling and transfers to high-availability collectives
  • Manages CONNECT-to-AVEVA PI Server data flows centrally from the cloud

Benefits:

  • Use advanced analytics capabilities in the cloud and bring the results and insights back on-premises
  • Enhance collaboration between operations domain experts and data scientists
  • Empower operations with advanced analytics insights using familiar tools and existing workflows

Data science with third-party data platform integrations

By enabling direct connectivity with third-party data platforms, we’ll ensure you don’t need to constantly replicate your data for analysis.

Benefits:

  • Data integrity: Ensure up-to-date information between systems without delays, fostering timely decision-making and operational efficiency.
  • Storage efficiency: Optimize storage resources by minimizing data duplication across systems, leading to cost savings and improved resource utilization efficiency.
  • Native contextualization: Ensure accurate interpretation with ready-to-consume data by providing comprehensive contextual information.

Streamlined development: Streamline implementation efforts with pre-established communication infrastructure, saving time and resources during development phases.
