CS Energy: Meeting the challenges of a shifting energy market through data analytics
The Australian energy market is facing increasing challenges with the move to renewables. Base load thermal generation has been a key part of the Queensland market for decades. Renewables are coming into the market, but providing narrow windows of energy output and are not yet meeting the baseload energy requirements for our state. The increase in solar production (in particular) is placing increased strain on the network during the middle of the day, requiring thermal plants to move to flexible operations in order to reduce emission and reduce cost as pool prices move to negative values. In this session, we'll talk about how we can flex operations between renewable and thermal assets and how we use prediction to best schedule outages, plan derates, understand when to charge batteries, predict the life of assets and change maintenance strategy.
